A VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY
NOTORIOUS
The site for Fox Searchlight's Notorious needed to capture the magnetic, iconic presence of its subject, the larger than life, legendary Notorious B.I.G. It also needed to side-step cliché and present an original and elegant design. With Biggie’s music emanating from every page, W/DG set to reflect the respectful tone of the film by building extraordinary content like the Bigger Than Life experience. This key feature is an elaborate, interactive "family tree" that traces Biggie's influences, his contemporaries and the artists who were inspired by his music and life. W/DG handled not only the design and animation of the feature, but the writing and extensive music history research.
darjeeling limited
Having worked previously on the site for The Royal Tenenbaums, W/DG knew the challenge of creating a site for a Wes Anderson film, a director meticulous in his use of color and composition. The site couldn't be too precious or whimsical. It needed to be just right. A main element of the site is a Flash exploration that let visitors move from compartment to compartment of a speeding train, discovering video clips and other content. This exploration matches the site's overall collage look.
I Love You, Man
W/DG created an online destination for I Love You, Man with Paramount Pictures. The site is designed to capture the buoyant tone of the comedy, which centers on a "girlfriend guy's" attempt to find a best man for his wedding. The site's playful animations and integrated movie clips helped build buzz and excitement for the theatrical release.
As a viral component, W/DG developed a heavy metal-inspired soundboard, which allows users to create a custom soundtrack using clips from the movie and share them online.
the uninvited
W/DG teamed up with Paramount Pictures to create an eerie site for the psychological thriller, THE UNINVITED. Drenched in dark imagery and nightmarish cries, W/DG sought to bring viewers deeper into the mind of a confused and terrified teenage girl as she tries to unravel the mystery behind her mother’s death. The uniquely crafted sections of the site are bound together by creepy sequences in which W/DG deconstructed and manipulated scenes from the movie.
STURDY WINGS ETIQUETTE
For Universal Pictures' filthy-minded but sweet-hearted comedy, Role Models, W/DG created a site for the movie's fictional child mentoring program, Sturdy Wings. A highlight of the site is a series of original vignettes written and animated by W/DG. Rendered in primary blue with child-like drawings these vignettes depict the right and oh-so-very-wrong ways to mentor a child from improper touching, dubious television programs, and adult entertainment. To complete the campaign for Role Models, W/DG also created a blog for the ex-drug addict now Sturdy WIngs founder(played by Jane Lynch).
PLANET° MAGAZINE
Multiple article illustrations have been created by W/DG for PLANET°, a global culture and lifestyle magazine.
Baby Mama
Synergy was a key goal for the site for Universal Pictures' Baby Mama. A widget was created in conjunction with NBC/Universal partner iVillage. The site also features numerous clips from NBC/Universal partner Hulu of previous performances by stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. W/DG built a content management system to allow daily updating of user-generated content and polls and trivia written by W/DG. In terms of design, the site needed to convey the movie's bright, pop tone, which led to the use of vivid pre-school colors and extensive video interstitials.
The Ruins
For the website for Paramount Pictures' The Ruins, W/DG designed an immersive, exploratory experience, dropping visitors in the jungle along with the main characters. The site makes heavy use of sound and texture. Two special features were created. One is a virtual passport where visitors can upload their own photo and have it become infected by the evil of The Ruins. The other is a Travel Advisory, an intricately designed look at the world's most dangerous places featuring original editorial content researched and written by W/DG.
the love guru viral campaign
For the release of The Love Guru by Paramount Pictures, W/DG designed a special site with original visuals where lead character Guru Pitka shares his teachings in different video segments. These video segments are punctuated with overlayed animations designed and created by W/DG.
Son of Rambow
In Son of Rambow, a group of juvenile filmmakers in the 1980s craft their own rendering of the iconic Sylvester Stallone character. W/DG crafted a site that plays off the movie's time period and its junior videographers' necessarily hand-crafted aesthetic.
next games
W/DG created two games for Paramount Pictures' action thriller, NEXT. The games are themed to the lead character's ability to see into the future. ESP Test challenges players with a visually dynamic version of the test immortalized in the opening scenes of Ghostbusters. Nuclear Threat puts players in Nicolas Cage's shoes in this maze game. The player has to rescue Cage's love interest before time runs out. The twist is players can turn back time and restore the clock by returning to the center of the maze.
black snake moan
The poster for Black Snake Moan is an eye-grabbing, iconic evocation of the covers of pulp novels, with a hint of a comic book cover too smutty for Marvel to ever publish. The site had to match the tone of the poster campaign - lurid, sweaty and dirty (in both senses of the word). Apart from capturing the tawdry tone, the site also needed to highlight the film's powerful soundtrack, reach out to the younger demographic that made Craig Brewer's previous film, Hustle & Flow, a hit and hint at the movie's depth - its soulfulness and its sweetness. A section called Mess Around was created, featuring an "Are You a Nymph?" quiz and a guitar simulator that let visitors create and share (via e-mail and MySpace) their own blues song. A separate EXPERIENCE section of the site was also created to show visitors what the movie had to offer beyond Christina Ricci chained up in her underwear.
pinky commercial storyboards
W/DG in conjunction with Brand New School created storyboards for a commercial campaign by Pinky, a leading Japanese fashion magazine.
british airways / carnaby street
W/DG illustrated a print campaign with Saatchi & Saatchi for British Airways, connecting a 1960's Mod style with a modern sensibility.
